sometimes the hours seem to drag on
like days
sometimes the days just seem to fly by
like hours
sometimes I yearn for an escape plan
written on the back of my hand
but I know I’ll be out soon anyway
any day

two weeks
it’s all I need to wait for
hand in the paper
and walk out the one-way door
won’t turn in my shirt this time
I need that reference
keep it safe for winter
I hope that makes some kind of sense to them

won’t need to block binders again
at least for a season
that hell’s reserved for only the unluckiest
notebooks and pens scattered aimlessly
like a captain of a bad cruise
at least the chairs look nice this time of year
when everything else is burning down
for hungry parents spending too much money on their kids
