we shed our drying skin and jumped into the water
as the sand behind us turned to glass
our spirits turned to run but our bodies had surpassed them
leaving a schism in its path

and as we moved on
we forgot that life
tears merged with the salty sea
foam encased our hearts
souls collapsed in air
the light of the sun became eclipsed
by the darkness reaching out beneath

the deeper we dove, the harder to fight
gasping for air was archaic
as we gained new form, or rather old
we stopped lying to ourselves
at least for a few seconds
