found us run around
deep into the mountain
climbing higher and higher
feeling ever so alive
but then the rocks came down
through the mountain town
we sold our plans
and descended to the ground
it felt wrong

rolling through the trees
stricken with disease
in the chemical air
there was no safe way for sure
found an enclave
a hill off the beating path
where the heart almost saved us
til it ran out of gas

dancing through the peaks
we don’t care
as if our problems aren’t there
slopes and valleys to scale
at the end of the rope
what do we lose if we fail?

what does it mean
when the avalanche stops
and we’re still curled up in a ball?
do the shadows deceive?
is the message received?
is it a sigh of relief
or tears of grief?
